Four Biotech Students Selected for a Unique Science Writing Program!

Manasa Gadiraju (freshman), Varsha Garla (sophomore), Akansha Khurana (freshman), and Jenna Moldaver (sophomore) are 4 of the 22 students from around the country selected to participate in curiousYOUNGwriters (cYw), a program that trains high school students to write engaging, easy-to-understand stories about important but complex science topics.

cYw, called “revolutionary” and “the link between really cool science and the general public,” brings together teams of students who work closely with professional science and communications mentors throughout the year to hone skills in researching, writing, editing, creating supportive graphics and publicizing their stories. Manasa, Varsha, Akansha and Jenna will be attending cYw’s kick-off Communications Forum at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ, on June 6.

By training high school students to be clear thinkers and better communicators, cYw is beginning to address the next generation’s pressing need to understand complex science and technology that will affect their personal health and well-being, as well as that of the world around them,” said Jayne Mackta of Bradley Beach, cYw founder and Creative Director. “We are thrilled to have Manasa, Varsha, Akansha and Jenna as part of this innovative collaborative program.”

“Through science, we understand ourselves, our world, and how to improve conditions. It’s essential to communicate this knowledge, as all people can benefit from a deeper understanding of the world in which they live. I’m excited and honored to be an editor and student writer for cYw this year, and I hope to learn a lot from this program” ~ Manasa Gadiraju.

“Science impacts every form of life on our planet, and it is our job as the next generation of scientists to not only explore the advancements being made globally on a daily basis, but also to keep the public aware of current news so we can protect the natural world and utilize it to progress further; science is an ocean, but it can only be shared one drop at a time” ~ Varsha Garla.

“Science is everywhere. It’s in the walls, it’s in the sky, it’s in our hands. People don’t realize that science is involved in almost every aspect of our lives and that is why it’s important to convey just how much science actually impacts us” ~ Akansha Khurana.

"After writing for this program last year, I'm enthusiastic and honored to be an editor this year. With artistry and precision, Curious Young Writers bridges the intimidating gap between complex science and the general public. I'm lucky to have found a program that synthesizes my passions for writing and science" ~ Jenna Moldaver.
