Updated Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) Handbook

Creativity, Action, Service

We are pleased to announce that our CAS Handbook for the 2013-2014 school year is complete! A significant amount of time and effort when into re-doing our handbook and we hope that it will be a valuable resource for all.

Please note that the CAS Handbook is designed as reference, it is not intended to be read cover to cover. Rather, it is something that you should refer to throughout the duration of CAS. To make things more manageable for you, we condensed the handbook into a two page "Quick Start Guide" that summarizes all of the essential information. The Quick Start Guide is something that you should review very carefully to ensure that you understand all of the key aspects of the CAS Program.

Both the Handbook and Quick Start Guide are available for download on the CAS section of our website.

As we head into winter break, we will be holding Open CAS Meetings for students to ask any questions that they may have. There is no sign up for these meetings, just simply come with your questions. The schedule is as follows:
  • Monday, Dec. 16 - second half of lunch in the Guidance Suite (Mr. Brown)
  • Tuesday, Dec. 17 - second half of lunch in the Fitness Lab (Mrs. Siter)
  • Wednesday, Dec 18 - second half of lunch in the Guidance Suite (Mr. Brown)
Additional Open CAS Meetings will be held throughout the rest of the year. However, we strongly encourage all juniors to attend one of the three meetings being held next week.

Important Note: By the end of marking period 2, students must have completed 40 CAS Hours and shown progress towards completing at least 2 of the Learning Outcomes. This CAS Progress Assessment will be their first grade in Junior LEAP I at the beginning of marking period 3.

We are looking forward to helping make your CAS experience memorable and enjoyable. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

New Jersey Shout Down Drugs! 2014 High School Music Competition

*CAS Opportunity*

Created in 2005, New Jersey Shout Down Drugs challenges high school students to create original music and lyrics with powerful substance abuse prevention messages to allow teens to deliver the prevention message to each other through their favorite medium of music. County Finalists are chosen by peer judges to perform their original songs at the Annual Statewide Prevention Concert, held in May, at a state-of-the-art venue. First, second and third place winners are chosen by a panel of judges that night to receive music contracts worth $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively to perform their winning songs at different events throughout the state during the year. Through this website the public is invited to vote for their favorite songs by participating in two phases of online voting. Since 2010, when the online voting began, hundreds of thousands of votes have been cast.
