Doodle4Google Finalist at BTHS!

By Emma Mueller

Whenever you click on the Google homepage, you see one of two things: the Google homepage, or a much more creative, elaborate version of the homepage. The latter option usually appears when there's a special event, celebration, or contest. Google often has these contests (named Doodle4Google) in which they choose Doodles from the public. One of these contests is happening right now, and a BTHS student is in the running!

Freshman Lauren Allex is currently a state finalist in the Doodle4Goggle competition for her Doodle inspired by her passion for animals and plants! The Doodle, named “The World In A Jar” can be seen above.

“Animals and plants have always fascinated me. Ever since I was a child, I’ve collected bugs and plants (mostly weeds that I thought looked nice!), googling how to care for them. If anyone ever finds a jar with a bug in it around the house, they instantly know it’s me!” Lauren described on the official Doodle4Google voting page.

This round of the competition is dependent on public voting, so you can go vote now on the Doodle4Google website here under Grades 8-9!

Lauren’s accomplishments so far have warranted an assembly hosted by Google right at BTHS. She has also earned a $2,500 equipment grant for BTHS (microscopes have already been bought). If Lauren is the national winner, her Doodle will be displayed on the Google homepage. She would also acquire BTHS an additional $50,000 and would be awarded a $30,000 scholarship herself.

Congratulations Lauren, and we hope to see your Doodle on the Google homepage! To make sure this happens, vote for “The World In A Jar” on the Doodle4Google voting page in the Grades 8-9 category!
