Random Acts of Kindness Week

By Emma Mueller

February 14th-20th is Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week, an event in which BTHS is taking part in again this year. Headed by the Students of Service, RAK Week activities have been taking place all week in the name of positivity, happiness, and kindness.

The “I AM” wall (pictured above), placed under the TV in the lobby, is comprised of little slips of paper written on by students describing something that they are. Some of the responses included, “fabulous,” “creative,” and “human.” The goal of the “I AM” wall is to allow people to embrace who they are with pride. The Secret Admirer, a Facebook page where students could anonymously send in compliments and positive messages to their friends, was running throughout the week. There were over 400 messages sent in and posted to the Facebook page here. A Big Brother Big Sister clothing drive is also taking place, with collecting bins in the lobby. This drive is still going on, so bring your clothing to donate to someone in need!

In addition to several overarching projects, each day of the week had a theme. Tuesday was Hey Day, where people were encouraged to greet as many people as they could in the hallways. Wednesday was Students Support Staff day, where students showed their appreciation for the custodians, cafeteria staff, and secretaries! Thursday was both Pass on Kindness and Treat Day. In the morning, a group of students gave out kindness cards to brighten up peoples’ days. In honor of Treat Day, students were given free food as they walked out of school. Finally, Friday was a Mix It Up Buddy Lunch, were the buddy lineages were encouraged to sit with each other.

RAK Week at BTHS is always a great way to promote a positive environment. But as the week ends, it’s also a good reminder that we don’t need a special week to be kind to others!
