NJ Governor's STEM Scholars 2015-16

The Governor’s STEM Scholars Program has begun accepting applications for the class of 2015. The program is a public-private partnership for students interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and is an initiative of the Research & Development Council of New Jersey, Governor’s Office, New Jersey Department of Education, and Secretary of Higher Education. This is a free program open to New Jersey students in grades 10-Ph.D., and it will take place during four, day long Saturday conferences over the 2015-2016 academic year. Applications will be accepted until Friday, May 29, 2015.

The program seeks to select a diverse and representative group of 50 high school and post-secondary students (through Ph.D./M.D.) who are passionate about STEM, presenting them with incredible opportunities to learn about becoming a STEM professional from New Jersey’s vast STEM industry and leading academic professionals. Scholars are provided with mentoring opportunities allowing them to engage in meaningful, ongoing dialogue with professionals from New Jersey’s research and development community as well as state policymakers.

The heart of the program is four themed conferences that aim to mentor, educate, and inspire the scholars by introducing them to accomplished STEM professionals in industry, academia, nonprofits, and government. The expectation is that engaging the best and brightest students in our state with their professional peers will open up mutually beneficial doors of research, opportunity, and professional development.

Note: If you are applying for this program, please email your counselor, who will send you a copy of your current transcript (required part of the application).

QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship for Juniors

The QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship gives outstanding low-income high school juniors an early advantage in college admissions. The Scholarship is designed for high school juniors who have shown outstanding academic ability despite facing economic challenges, and show the potential to attend top colleges.

QuestBridge takes all of the following factors into account when evaluating an application for the College Prep Scholarship:

  • Academic Achievement
  • Financial Qualifications
  • Personal Circumstances

There are no absolute criteria or cut-offs for GPA, standardized test scores, or income and they take a holistic approach in reviewing applications. College Prep Scholars typically come from households earning less than $60,000 annually for a family of four, and often less than $50,000. Many past award recipients have been among the first generation in their family to attend a four-year college.

Application Deadline: March 25, 2015
